The methods employed to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. Today I'm hear to let you knot that it is time to face that fear. Having a high search engine ranking for your website is so essential to your business that it should be taken seriously if you want to succeed in your business.

Almost every person using the internet looking for goods and services use search engine such as Google, Msn and Yahoo. Search engine optimization is based around the principle that you should have your website ranked well for the search engines to attract targeted customers to your website, who are then more likely to make a purchase. The users who visit your website is relative to the ranking of your website in the search engines. This is the principal of search engine optimization.

You can try and read everything about search engine optimization online and figure out where to go from there. Or, you can improve your search engine rankings by making some simple on page adjustments. One of the first things you should look at is the title of your web page at the top of your online browser.

At the top of your web browser, you will see the title bar. Look at what is says when you are on your website home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your home page's title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your company name.

You should then click on all your internal website links and see what the title bar says for these as well. For each individual web page, the title bar must contain the specific keyword and phrases that each individual page is about. Avoid having lots of different keywords in the title bar, keeping it to six words or less. Make sure you don't have repeated words next to each other, or just avoid repeating the same keywords more than once.

Search engines prefer unique quality content, as opposed to lots of colorful graphics. The text on your pages must contain the most important keywords, and the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site.

You should carefully chose your words for each page, and aim to have around 100 - 250. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. The search engines must be able to read the text in HTML format, and not graphics.

Take your cursor and highlight the text to see if it is in HTML format. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. To achieve better search engine rankings, you should have your webmaster change the format to HTML.

Next we come to what is called meta tags. Meta tags don't really have a great deal of effect on your search engine rankings. But, it is still worth adding them just in case the search engines take this into consideration.

To see if your meta tags are set up properly, click the "view" button on your web browser, and select "source". This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If you have meta tags, you will see them appear near the top of the window. You should see meta name="keywords" content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in.

Last is link popularity. The most important factor. This is the quality and quantity of websites that link to your website. Having this directs more quality traffic to your website, and also increases search engine rankings.

All businesses should include a search engine optimization campaign in their marketing strategy. The higher you rank in the search engines, the more exposure you have in your market, which means more sales.
